a brief visit to a synagogue in exile in soerabaja
at least 10 jewish men are required for a proper service in a synagogue
women are not accounted and will not be
that's why this synagogue is no longer active
where can one find 10 jewish men in soerabaja?
a small jewish community used to reside in east java
they came primarily for trade
assimilation with the local community
and through inter-marriage
had then reduced their number significantly
jew is also not a recognized religion in indonesia
thus the children had to convert into any of the five official religion
to be entitled for schools and or access to public services in indonesia
as this continues
the jewish community in soerabaja is on the brink of extinction

 | Saya pernah denger ada jewish di Surabaya, eh.. ternyata bener ya.., tks photo2nya.., pertama liat jewish ya disini di montreal, tapi itupun bukan jewish modern, jewish hassidim, yang bisa dikenali langsung dari pakaiannya. |
| Nanti deh mbak, kalo ada waktu aku photo2in, disini ada daerah dimana orang2 hassidim tinggal, aku pernah kesana liat2, tapi agak2 takut buat ambil photonya, takut mereka marah. dulu soalnya pernah suami dateng ke synagognya pengen tahu aja.., eh.., nga dipeduliin katanya.., sayangnya menurut cerita2, mereka kurang berintegrasi dengan masyarakat lain.., kehidupan mereka kaya dipisah gitu sama komunitas lain, apalagi selalu ada masalah, baru2 ini ada kasus, synaogog mereka jendelanya menghadap ke tempat kebugaran, mereka minta tempat kebugaran itu menutup jendelanya, karena menurut mereka orang2 yang lagi olahraga itu mengganggu pandangan mereka dengan pakaian yang nga baik (menurut mereka) terutama wanitanya... Aneh ya.., kenapa mereka nga menutup aja jendela synagognya daripada suruh jendela orang yang ditutup.., ada2 aja...:-))) |

 | salah........! kalo kita bilang disini ngga ada yahudi nya (jewish). yang murni mungkin iya tapi blasterannya sih banyak !mulai dari Dhani Ahmad pentolan band dewa, Yapto Suryosumarno pentolannya geng Siliwangi dan Pemuda Pancasila belum lagi artis dan aktor Indonesia dari mulai Nafa Urbach sampai Renaldy banyak lagi yang lain. komunitas mereka memang tidak keliahatan tapi cukup kuat. dan saling melindungi.
terbukti beberapa aktor yang pernah berperkara dengan hukum disini aman aman aja sampai sekarang. |
